Informative
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 requires that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained to a safe condition.
Although the regulations don’t specify how often appliances need to be tested, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recommends that each appliance needs a regular inspection and testing schedule. This ensures the safety of the business premises and employees within them.
Along with the HSE, insurance companies are increasingly wanting evidence that electrical installations to public, commercial and industrial locations are safe.
Inspection and testing should be undertaken by a person with:- The correct and calibrated equipment to conduct the test
- The knowledge and ability to use the test equipment properly
- The ability to interpret the test results
- Apply the corresponding standards and regulations to the equipment under test
